BecomEnsemble presents compositions by Wong Foo Jeng, including the world premieres of both (lo)! again(st) anthem, a work for piano and orchestra that responds to Benjamin Britten’s “lost anthem”, and time has moved farther from home. The concert also features grant me, a duo for violin and piano that premiered in 2021.

(lo)! again(st) anthem, for piano and orchestra, responds to Benjamin Britten’s rejected drafts for the Malaysian national anthem by weaving musical quotations from Britten’s works. The piece addresses themes of colonialism and features Wong Foo Jeng on the piano, and will be conducted by Christian-Frédéric Bloquert.

time has moved farther from home is scored for string quartet and is inspired by the concepts of time, place and memory.

grant me, for violin and piano, explores the social struggles of adapting to a new environment through the sonic juxtaposition of the two instruments.
